Overview of 5th Grade Art

 

In Kindergarten, students explore the theme of Change & Transformation.

 

Students will examine this theme through Big Ideas, including:

  • People create art to respond to change or transform their world.

  • Art and artists can change or transform over time.

  • People, places, and things can change.

  • Ideas can evolve and change over time.

 

MCPS Visual Art Standards (& National Core Art Standards):

VA:CR.1.1.5.a. Synthesize ideas to generate innovative solutions for artwork.

VA:CR.2.1.5.a. Use art elements and design principles to transform an idea, process, or product. 

VA:CR.2.1.5.b. Select appropriate art-making techniques and procedures when using art tools, media, and workspace.

VA:CR.3.1.5.a. Apply feedback to enhance meaning in artwork and refine craftsmanship.

VA:PR.4.1.5.a. Select an artwork for display and justify how it meets the criteria of an exhibition in an artist’s statement.

VA:PR.5.1.5.a. Apply appropriate display methods for artwork to be presented in a specific exhibition space.

VA:PR.6.1.5.a. Share a personal collection that demonstrates how artwork has changed over time.

VA:RE.7.1.5.a. Explain how observations change the analysis of the artwork. 

VA:RE.8.1.5.a. Explain how analyzing art transforms an initial interpretation.

VA:RE.9.1.5.a. Select and use criteria to determine if a personal art-making goal was achieved.
